Etymology - What's in a Name? Project (due when we return to school, Monday, March 30, 2020)
What is Etymology? Etymology is the study of words and their origin.
You will be studying the origin (or etymology) of your name. Please read all directions before beginning your research. There are two parts to this assignment. Part 1 is internet research and Part 2 is typing your research findings in a Google Doc.
PART 1: Internet Research
Find the following information about your name:
Part 2: Google Doc. (Final Copy)
After doing some research, type your research findings into a Google Doc. You can add color, change fonts, or add clipart to your project for creativity. Below is a sample of what your final copy will look like. (I used the name of my nephew as an example.)
SAMPLE: Carter
Meaning: “one who uses a cart” or “transporter of goods by cart”
Popularity Ranting: #24 in 2017
Etymology/History: English origins; English name for a job of someone who builds or drives carts
Variation/Alternate Spellings: Karter; Cartrell
Interesting Fact: A famous person is the 39th president, Jimmy Carter.
Family Reason: His parents liked the name because it was different at the time.
