Topics and Assessments - 2nd Trimester (current topics & assessments)
Topic: Researching and Citing a Source
During the first trimester, students learned how to cite their sources using NoodleTools (www.NoodleTools.com). This trimester, students will practice researching a topic, taking notes, writing a summary, and citing their source.
Assessment #1: Christmas Traditions/Customs Research and Citation
Students will choose a Christmas tradition or custom to research/read about. Students will take notes and then write a summary about the tradition/custom. Students will complete a rough draft and write a final copy on decorative paper. Students will use NoodleTools to cite their source (all students will use the same website for their research).
Assessment #2: State Research for ELA/Social Studies Research Paper
Students will be completing research in library for their state research paper. Students are required to use 3 different sources and complete 8 note cards. Some of the research will need to be finished at home. Students were given a research folder in which to keep all library research information.

Topics and Assessments - 1st Trimester
Topic: Reviewing How to Read a Bibliography
Students will be reviewing the various parts of a bibliography entry (learned in 4th grade library): author, article title, place of publication, publisher, & copyright date. Students will receive a handout in class on which to practice identifying the parts of a bibliography.
Assessment #1 - How to Read a Bibliography - Worksheet Quiz*
In class, students will receive a worksheet and bibliography samples (similar to what we did in class together). Students will complete the worksheet independently and hand in for a grade.

Assessments #2 and #3 - NoodleTools Parts 1 and 2
In class, students will be researching an animal of their choice. They will take notes and create two citations - a book citation and a database citation. Part 1 of the project will be written; Part 2 will involve taking the written information and imputing it into NoodleTools. Each student has their own login and password for NoodleTools given to them on an index card which they are to keep in their library folder. This project will be completed in library class.
